Please refrain from using caste/community name alias So called titles / family names

Its been almost a year that i wrote .now back to my usual business :)

I always wondered why people use caste/community name as part of their names like singh, iyer, naicker, etc .To my shock i nowadays see more people in social networking websites updating their last name and including their caste name.I was curious why still people uses that and the reply i got for that is "it's my family name"

I have one question for all those people ,"A family name is name that is used for one single family ,but i see huge chunk of families use that, how can you then justify it as YOUR family name? "

If two people are meeting for first time,it will do if it is just to introduce them as siva and rahul instead of siva xxxx and rahul xxxx.Other person only needs to know a detail to call you and not ur caste or ur social caste background.

I think we youth should move ahead of all these caste/community stuffs.we should be bold enough to remove it from our names ,if not at least not keep our kids name as iyers, singhs, etc .

If you need to move towards socially equal society and come out of these social barriers ,first small step is to remove caste name from yours. In the longer vision, say after 20 years ,ban the issue of community certificate and imprison school/organization who asks for caste/community in their applications.

hddif what u are saying is right we would have to need some form of identification number as rahul1 rahul2 so n so forth... else we need to change the whole system which has been in this place for decades and it will remain for decades so only hope is annihilation and restarting the world

I do agree with you.But in India, the South ecspecially we Tamils don't have the system for family names, while rest of our country has tht system "Patels,Shettys,Nairs.." Its also identification as much as revealing the caste.

Maybe when our hearts are big and minds are open, why we have to feel uncomfortable about these names. They are just words people use to address themselves. If we can see it just as a name.Wht's in a name? Some like to be called so.When we dont hurt others,we got all rights to choose how we want to be called.

yeah... u r rite... sivaram!!

The damn caste names had been eradicated from here tamilnadu for some decades. Because of the continuous social justice issues. But nowadays it is coming in new shell. "old wine in a new bottle"!

you can remember one thing! Educated and modern People will feel shy to say their community or caste names in tamilnadu...!

But We should agree one thing, that they dont feel shy to show their caste names in social functions like "Marriage Invitation".

Even though,It is far better than north.

But some people are dragging the society in backwards by putting their caste names and insisting or encouraging others to do the same...

You can find some new comers in film industry, they are putting their caste names. Like Suresh Menon, Rajiv Menon, Gautham Menon, Naresh Iyer, Anuja Iyer, Navya nair, Ramnath Shetty...

I think this should be stop before we reaching the olden days!

And, in that manner I second ur thoughts. Well done.. Keep it up!
